Lewis River Salmon!
Fishing here at the right time of year produces limits daily for both Coho Salmon and Chinook Salmon. At Buoy 10, we troll hearing and use flashers and divers. The month of August and the first week of September is the best time to fish Buoy 10. The spring chinook salmon are very popular because they're the best eating in the Pacific Northwest. We fish spring salmon on the Columbia River, Willamette River, Tillamook Bay, Lewis River, Cowlitz River, Clackamas River, Rogue River, Wind River, and the Kalma River. There are many techniques to fishing for spring salmon such as trolling hearing, back trolling kwickfish with a sardine wrap, back bouncin eggs and sand shrimp, trolling spinners and prawns. The spring salmon start to enter the Clumbia River and tributaries in January and continue to run through June. Fishing for spring salmon the right time of year can produce some high energy action.
The species of salmon found here in Oregon and Washington are chinook salmon (King Salmon), Coho Salmon (Silver Salmon), Sockeye Salmon, and Chum Salmon. The most popular are Chinook and Coho Salmon.
The Fall Chinook are the biggest salmon that we ahve here in Washington and Oregon. We start fishing the fall run of salmon at Buoy 10 in August and follow them up stram in the Columbia River in September. Each section of the river we use different techniques to catch these fish. Fall Salmon average 20 to 30 pounds and it is no uncommon to catch a 50 pound salmon. Tillamook Bay and Nehalem Bay offer some of the very biggest fall chinook around. These fish start in September and run through November. These fish average 30 to 40 pounds an it is not uncommon to catch 50 to 60 pound king salmon.
We also fish the Trask and Wildon Rivers, which are tributaries that flow into Tillamook Bay. This offers soe great fishing as well using bobber and eggs in tide water.
